Saeed Shah

I have reported on international news for nearly two decades, as a staff foreign correspondent for The Wall Street Journal, and as a reporter for The Economist and The Guardian. I was part of the WSJ team that was a finalist for the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting, for coverage of the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.
I have written about wars in Afghanistan, Gaza, Iran, and India-Pakistan, climate change, economic turmoil, and the struggle for democracy.
I have delivered scoops, including the news that a Chinese fighter jet shot down a top Western combat plane in 2025, in the India-Pakistan conflict, demonstrating the potency of Chinese military hardware in an actual war - the most-read story on the Reuters website that year. I revealed that the CIA had recruited a local doctor in its successful hunt for Osama bin Laden, a story that made the White House ban the use of medical personnel for espionage.
I was previously a business journalist in London, writing about some of Britain's biggest companies, for The Independent and The Times (of London).
I am a British citizen.
